“It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it.” (3 John 1:3)
I once met a communicator who was so knowledgeable of the Bible, so charismatic, and so good at engaging his audience, but off the platform he was self-assertive, brash, and unkind. Conversely, I’ll never forget a pastor I met in Costa Rica. He wasn’t the best speaker by our standards, and he didn’t have all the formal training one would expect in a pastor, but he was so kind and so loving to everyone in his community that God used him to attract the yet-to-believe in his small town by the masses.
Both made a memorable impression on me. The notable difference, however, wasn’t how much knowledge and truth they possessed, but how they lived it out. One knew a lot, but his actions didn’t show it. The other had a humble faith, but his walk was completely characterized by Christlikeness, and that made all the difference in the world.
This week, ask the Lord to help you live out what you know about your Savior so that your daily actions would match your faith. We all make impressions on others; may your impression be a lasting tase of Jesus as you walk like him.
